This year is 65th anniversary of the ending of the Second World War. Victory in Europe Day was on May 8, 1945, the date when the World War II Allies formally accepted the unconditional surrender of the armed forces of Nazi Germany and the end of Adolf Hitler's Third Reich. The Soviet Victory Day marks the capitulation of Nazi Germany to the Soviet Union in the Second World War (also known as the Great Patriotic War in the Soviet Union and some post-Soviet states) following the signing of the surrender document late in the evening on 8 May 1945 (9 May by Moscow Time). The Soviet government announced the victory early on 9 May after the signing ceremony in Berlin. Peace did not come without huge loss of life on both sides and the day is also a way of remembering the many people that lost their lives during the conflict. Victory Day is celebrated in a grand way in Russia and Ukraine.
